She arrived in Indianapolis November 2004 when her husband Scott had a promotion to serve the Mid West region for Discount Tire. She was referred for real estate services to Margaret Sheridan-Bannister at F.C. Tucker. As the search began for an ideal home Debi indicated to Margaret that she was interested in volunteer work in the community of Indianapolis. Boy did she ask the right person? The rest is history. Margaret immediately involved Debi in the community!
She served for two years helping Spotlight in its mission to raise funds for the prevention of HIV/AIDS in the state of Indiana. In 2005 and 2006 Debi served on the Spotlight Committee as the co-chair of the Chocolate Bar Committee and the Indiana Aids Walk. During her first year in Indianapolis she made and sold thousands of silk flower pins to raise money and promote Spotlight! In 2006-2007 Debi coordinated the effort to pick up and distribute chocolate bars to promote Spotlight. This included setting up a stand at most Arts events, Clowes Memorial Hall as well as the Indiana Arts Garden at lunch times. Each chocolate bar sold for $5.00 but it was a wonderful way to promote the cause and raise money as 100% of the sale went to the cause!
Her involvement with Dance Kaleidoscope began once she attended her first performance in January 2005. Scott and Debi are Isadora Society members and attend performances of D.K. as well as special events. She worked prior to Kaleidoscope of Dance XII picking up and delivering silent auction items. It was her pleasure to serve on the Kaleidoscope of Dance XIII Committee as co-chair of the Auction. Debi worked daily at collecting items and coordinating details. The results show that she and her team was highly successful as $34,500 was raised from the auction in 2007 an increase of 60% from the previous year.
Debi has been a member of the People of Vision organization as well as a member of that board for two years. She served during 2006 as a member of the Eyeball Committee on the auction committee. This included an eBay, silent as well as a live auction (we covered the complete spectrum). This event took place at the new Conrad hotel and it was very successful. I also helped with mailings and organizing meetings for People of Vision (POV). At present Debi Richardson serves as Treasurer of the POV Board. She coordinates and collects membership fees from the 572 members of this group which supports and raises funds for Prevent Blindness Indiana.
Debi serve as a member of the Discount Tire Driven to Care Group. The Discount Tire Foundation based in Scottsdale, AZ distributes funds to regions throughout the United States. Each region has a group of Vice President Wives who form a Committee to undertake philanthropic work in the region they live in. Each year they attend a seminar in Arizona to find out what the focus of the foundation is for that particular year. Then they return to their regions in Debi’s case the Midwest (Indiana, Ohio) to work within the community and distribute funds allocated from the Bruce T. Halle Foundation. Significant grants have been made for the past two years to the Indiana Aids Foundation as a result of endeavors with this group.
